Board Briefing: Winter 17-18

The last Local Children Safeguarding Board meeting for 2017 took place on Thursday 7 December 2017, and was the first official meeting for our new Independent Chair, Chris Robson.

The Board were pleased to welcome the Education Safeguarding Officer to present the report from the annual Safeguarding in Schools audits, and we heard about how schools are monitoring bullying, including incidents of racist bullying, in the city. Sussex Police told us how Operation Encompass is being trialled in Crawley to notify schools of any incidences of domestic violence that the police are called to at the homes of any of their pupils, and the evaluation of this pilot will be presented to us in March.

We were presented the Children & Young People Mental Health Transformation Plan to keep all partners up to date with the work to improve care for children’s mental health. We also heard the findings and recommendations from a recent multi-agency audit on Safeguarding Children with Disabilities.
