ru-ok? is Brighton and Hove’s under 19’s specialists substance misuse service. They aim to offer a family and young person-friendly service, reducing the harm caused by alcohol and drug use. They offer free confidential advice and information to young people about their drug and/or alcohol use.

Placed in the Children’s Trust it is a multi agency, multi disciplinary team, with staff from social care, Connexions, YAC, Oasis and health. The workers are substance misuse specialists; the team consists of a generic worker, young woman’s worker, Connexions PA, housing worker, social worker, YOT worker and a CAMHS psychiatrist. The team offers specialist consultation, advice and training to professionals. They work with young people who have complex, long-term substance misuse problems, where their use is either potentially or actually causing serious problems in their day-to-day life.

They prioritise work with young people who are using heroin, cocaine or other class A drugs as well as volatile substances or injecting. They also target young people who are committing offences or using sex to pay for drugs or alcohol.

Anyone can refer to the service. If you are a young person or a parent/carer then all you have to do call during office hours, Monday-Friday and a worker will speak to you. If you are professional working with young people please contact them to discuss making a referral.
